The 2019 Inter-Congress of the International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (IUAES) will create a forum to discuss how anthropology studies, engages with and creates different kinds of solidarities. Solidarities that exist and emerge at local, regional and global levels of social life and in all corners of the world; solidarities that in our times have to be consciously stretched out to other species and ecosystems. We believe that in the context of high mobility and forced migration, climate change, raising xenophobia and political turmoil, there is a need to discuss how we, as anthropologists, could contribute to the ideas and practices of solidarity. The aim of the conference is to provide a space for anthropologists and ethnologists from all over the world, to discuss both the small scale, more intimate, and large scale, more globalized experiences of solidarity, or lack thereof, and potential ways of creating, sustaining or renegotiating it.
