The contemporary world operates fundamentally by media and mediated languages. Images and sounds join texts not only in expressing worlds, but also in their construction and destruction, especially in the convergence of media that digital technologies made possible and are intensified in the context of the pandemic/infodemic of covid-19. In this scenario, reflecting on the situated logics and practices that operate by sounds and images became an imperative to social action both in local and transnational contexts. Putting together anthropologists and non-anthropologists who have cutting-edge social agencies in different contexts and with a totally online and remote format, the Pierre Verger Award seeks to advance practical and conceptual discussions on how images, sounds and gestures represents, create and modify our worlds, knowledge and the way in which we are affected by them and between ourselves. It?s also an attempt to postulate – by means of audiovisual, photographic and drawing anthropological productions – the reach and productivity of multimodal approach for the constitution of a public anthropology whose actions overpass the walls of universities, emphasizing a horizon of knowledge construction that is collaborative, shared and directed towards social justice.
