Project Title

Paardekooper, Roeland (Independent Scholar) Around the World in 80 Experiments: The 12th Experimental Archaeology Conference (#EAC12) World Tour

Interest in experimental archaeology is growing rapidly, including experiments in the preservation of evidence in the archaeological record, the development of scientific techniques and forensics, and the making and performance of all manner of artefacts and structures. Archaeological experiments are being conducted worldwide in universities, interest groups, archaeological open-air museums and traditional museums. University courses in experimental archaeology are also increasing around the world as the field becomes an established part of archaeological scholarship. The 12th Experimental Archaeology Conference (#EAC12) is a unique opportunity to connect experimental archaeologists, researchers, and innovators across the globe. The conference will take the form of a rolling digital tour ‘around the world in 80 experiments’, visiting local ‘hotspots’ in different time zones across the world over the 4 days of the conference, starting in New Zealand and Australia, then moving on to Asia, Africa, Europe, North and South America. Each local hotspot will offer online lectures and presentations that showcase the diversity of experimental archaeology locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. #EAC12 is open access, and will include many opportunities for interaction between the participants, the speakers and the hotspots. EXARC invites you to join this unique and memorable world tour to celebrate the current state of experimental archaeology and to participate in mapping out future directions.
