Project Title

Szydlowski, Michelle (Miami U., Oxford, OH) "Anthrozoology as International Practice (AIP): A Student Conference"

The Anthrozoology as International Practice (AIP) conference aims to: 1. provide an inclusive, supportive, and accessible space for students with a variety of educational experiences, as well as early career researchers (ECRs, defined below) in anthrozoology, anthropology, and related fields (e.g., human-animal studies, natural sciences, or philosophy). 2. provide an opportunity for PhD-researchers and pre-PhD students to present and discuss their projects, and receive constructive peer (and senior academic) feedback. 3. build a network for ongoing support and collaboration. The three-day, online conference will be convened by the AIP working group (see anthrozoologyconference.com), comprised of self-funding, postgraduate students and precariously employed graduates. Proposals for fifteen-minute presentations related to the Anthrozoological field (aka ‘human-animal interactions’), will be solicited from Undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD students, recent graduates and those between programs. Presenters may represent any university, college or country. The conference will reflect the principles of symbiotic ethics (defined below), where research applies to participants of all species and: • must provide some benefit to individual participants • does not cause emotional or physical harm to participants • offers autonomy to individual participants • attempts to represent all participants’ viewpoints • is rejected if it degrades (or promotes commodification of) any participant.
