SALSA’s 2023 Biennial Conference will take place amid the populations, environments, institutions, and nations that are at the heart of our research. Based in Leticia (Colombia), along borders with Brazil and Peru, the conference is an international collaboration that will examine the possibilities emerging in Indigenous Amazonian anthropology. Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Universidade Federal do Amazonas (Brazil), and Universidad Nacional de la Amazonia Peruana are three universities strongly committed to broadening border cooperation and strengthening the participation of Indigenous and traditional peoples in anthropological research and higher education. We aim to host a conference that puts diversity, transnational cooperation, symmetric dialogue, and intercultural exchange at its center, as these are experienced and sustained in Lowland South America, in all academic and social activities. The indigenization and decolonization of anthropological knowledge are central to these aims, so various aspects of this conference have been designed to facilitate these. Wenner Gren support will ensure participation of Indigenous scholars, students and leaders from throughout South America in all aspects of the conference, including the keynote address, panels, workshops, and various innovative special events.
