Williams, Cody (Independent Scholar) Realities of Disability in Brasil Working GroupThe Realities of Disability in Brasil Working Group has opened a space to deepen our understanding of disability in Brazil’s past and present in Portuguese. We have a two-fold mission: to connect Brazilian scholars studying disability to Global North scholars who also study disability and to get scholars who study other aspects of Brazil to recognize the value of disability as a category of analysis. Our shared aim is to delve into the particularities of disability from distinctly Brazilian perspectives as they intersect with other categories of analysis. We are a group of students and scholars from across the Americas working to privilege studies and researchers outside the traditional axes of academic prestige, using anthropological knowledge to reach across disciplines and borders. Most of us are anthropologists, but some of us are also historians, sociologists, health sciences professionals, and media scholars. Our group brings together researchers with and without life experience in disabilities; scholars with diverse visions and life histories that expand current anthropological and disability studies discourses.
