Gardin, Axelle (Independent Scholar) "5th Virtual Conference for Women Archaeologists and Paleontologists"The Virtual Conference for Women Archaeologists and Paleontologists (VCWAP) began in 2021 to address the underrepresentation of women in scientific fields, particularly in high-level positions in Archaeology and Paleontology. This situation is well illustrated by the ‘leaky pipeline effect’ involving various factors, such as the challenge of balancing parental responsibilities with societal expectations, particularly at early career stages. VCWAP aims to increase the visibility of female early career researchers (ECRs) and paleoartists, promote interdisciplinary approaches, foster exchanges and collaborations, and create a supportive community for women ECRs to tackle their challenges. The conference includes presentations and discussions by women on recent developments and contributions in their fields, a paleoart exhibition, a roundtable discussion, and a workshop. Audience and discussions welcome everyone, regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, professional experience, or geographic location as we are convinced that progress is achieved collaboratively, with diverse perspectives. In March 2025, VCWAP will celebrate its fifth edition, maintaining its core identity as a free online, and accessible scientific conference. It will span the three days preceding International Women’s Rights Day. We seek to expand our audience to new countries and enhance the promotion of women ECRs and paleoartists’ work.
