Project Title

Lobo, Andréa (Brasilia, U. of) "A Vibrant Project: Publishing Indigenous and Black Brazilian Anthropologists in foreign languages"

This project seeks to enable the divulgation of the academic work of black and indigenous anthropologists via the journal Vibrant, whose policy since its foundation has been to publish texts in foreign languages (other than Portuguese) to promote the internationalization of Brazilian anthropology. The present proposal also looks to assist the process of reversing the essentially racist dynamics that historically prevented the access of these social groups to the leading national research centers – a trend reflected in almost two decades of affirmative actions in Brazilian education but still with a long path ahead. In this way, we propose to enhance the visibility and divulgation of academic works by those researchers, growing in number but still suffering from the absence of government funding (on which Brazil’s university system is almost entirely dependent) for affirmative actions at this level of disseminating postgraduate production. In so doing, we aim to demonstrate the potential of pluralizing the contingent of researchers who make up our discipline, and lend support to the development of networks of dialogue centered on and coordinated by researchers from these minorities.
