Meetings on Archaeological Theory in South America (TAAS) have reflected upon the situation and outlook of archaeological theory and practice in Latin America, along with its socio-political implications since their inception in Vitoria, Brazil, in 1998. The past ten meetings have brought together scholars, students, indigenous people, local communities and interested publics to promote active and engaged interaction over the course of each conference. The main objective of XI TAAS Huaraz is to bring scholars, students and practitioners of archaeology together, as well as communities affected by and benefitting from all aspects of archaeological practice. It aims to contribute to dialogues about the past and its transformative potential, and to promote critical archaeological theory from a Latin American perspective in order to envision alternative, and more critical and engaged, social dynamics in the future.
