Submissions for the 2027 Current Anthropology Visual Anthropology Competition are Now Open

Please submit 1-3 images (entries may draw on a range of media, including but not limited to photographs, 3D scans, diagrams, technical drawings, graphic ethnography, etc.) along with a 250-400 word descriptive and/or analytical caption for the body of work as a whole. The submission should include both the visual component and a caption that points to the unifying theme, theoretical interest, and aesthetic approach of the body of media files. This caption should be 250-400 words in length, excluding references and endnotes. Information on acceptable figure formats can be found on the CA manuscript preparation page. Visual competition entries should conform to the highest standards for research ethics and practice.

The deadline for 2027 contest submissions is September 15, 2026. Entries can be submitted through the CA Editorial Manager. Please select “visual media competition” when submitting your entry.
