Project Title

Albshir, Zainab (Warsaw U.) "From hunting to herding at Neolithic Kadero, Central Sudan"

This study aims to understand the evolution of subsistence strategies at Kadero in Central Sudan during the Neolithic, with a particular focus on the transition from hunting to pastoralism. To achieve this, radiocarbon dating will be conducted on samples from various contexts to establish a refined chronology for the site, currently based primarily on relative stratigraphic sequences. Additionally, Zooarchaeology by Mass Spectrometry (ZooMS) will be employed to accurately identify faunal species, complementing the traditional osteological approach. Stable isotopic analyses, including ⁸⁷Sr/⁸⁶Sr, δ¹³C, and δ¹⁵N, will further enhance our understanding of subsistence strategies. This integrated approach aims to clarify the cultural processes during the Neolithic, leading to the formation of agropastoral societies in Sudan. Finally, the study will address the extent of economic development in Sudan’s subsistence practices under the influence of Egypt.
