The International Meeting on Phytolith Research (IMPR) is a bi-annual conference organised under the auspices of the International Phytolith Society (https://phytoliths.org/) that aims at bringing together experts working in various disciplines related to the study of plant opals (microscopic fossilised plant remains). The 14th IMPR, which will take place in Barcelona in July 2025, aims at acting as a global and inclusive meeting point for phytolith researchers, who have not had the opportunity to meet in person at large since 2018. We are particularly eager to welcome a whole new generation of phytolith researchers, many of whom have never taken part in an in-person IMPR. We also aim to gather together phytolith specialists from low to mid-income countries, who often lack the means to participate in international conferences. Beyond conventional conference sessions, the 14th IMPR will include two hands-on workshops on Phytolith morphometrics and Phytolith auto-fluorescence, an Open phytoliths roundtable, and an on-site Open science clinic. We hope that these events will help bring together the phytolith community and move towards a shared code of practices and methods.
