In 1959, the Foundation created Current Anthropology as an editorially independent forum where anthropologists from around the world could share their work.

Current Anthropology is a leading international journal that brings archaeology and biological, linguistic, and sociocultural anthropology into conversation. Published by the University of Chicago Press and sponsored by the Wenner-Gren Foundation, it is distinctive for its global reach, four-field scope, and tradition of publishing major articles alongside invited commentary and author responses.

The journal is co-edited by anthropologist Caroline Schuster and archaeologist Catherine J. Frieman, the first cross-disciplinary editorial team in its history.
